About THE POSSE
The Junior Mounted Posse was established by Sheriff Buster Kern in 1952 as goodwill ambassadors for the Harris County Sheriff's Office. Our mission is to teach the youth of our community responsibility through caring and training for their mounts, volunteering their time as outreach ambassadors, and learning and executing intricate drills and maneuvers. The Junior Mounted Posse is a youth, horse mounted precision drill team. Posse members are between the ages of 6-20. The Jr. Posse performs in local rodeos, parades and participates in pony express relay rides to surrounding counties delivering invitations to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Members have to have access to a trained horse and the ability to trailer their mount to practices and events. During the year, the kids practice their horsemanship, as well as citizenship, through bi-weekly practices, monthly rodeo performances, pony express relay rides, parades and special assignments with the Sheriff's Office.
The Junior Posse is always looking for new members.
